From French Flair to Fruit Fusions: A Tour Through Ipoh’s 10 Coolest Cafes

Posted on January 19, 2023January 16, 2024 By Alexandra Wong No Comments on From French Flair to Fruit Fusions: A Tour Through Ipoh’s 10 Coolest Cafes

From hidden havens to trend-setting hotshots, prepare to tantalize your taste buds with these Ipoh cafes that opened in the last 6 months – half of them are in Old Town! (Edited 14 Jan 2024)

I have personally visited them to have a drink at least, not simply copy paste from the internet ok!!

1. C’est Si Bon – Step into this serene oasis just a street away from Ipoh’s bustling Kong Heng neighbourhood and let your cares of the world melt away. Amid soaring ceilings, wooden beams and cascading greenery, tuck into their signature chocolate lava cake – a symphony of crispy waffle, creamy gelato, and warm cake encasing a molten centre of high-chocolate lava, ready to erupt with each tantalizing forkful.

2. GALANGGAL.Restaurant.Fusion food – Chef Fikri’s passion explodes in hearty Western and Middle Eastern flavors. Feast on the melt-in-your-mouth lamb shank, fragrant duck confit, or sourdough with hummus – generous portions, explosive tastes, and wallet-friendly bliss await.

3. Oasis Cafe – Ditch the “vegetarian = bland” myth! This homey haven serves up mum’s magic – think a delectable “mutton rendang” nasi lemak, paired with the daughter’s espresso artistry. Veggie heaven with a caffeine kick!

4. Rene’s Cafe – Craving unique coffee and cakes? Rene’s got you covered. Sip espresso treasures or indulge in batik cake, then explore their hidden alleyway seating – a quirky gem waiting to be discovered.

5. Chloe.co – Old Town’s hottest trendsetter! Sure, the croissants and burnt cheesecakes are standard, but the star is the facade. Picture a French-style revolving door and a giant croissant installation – Instagram-worthy perfection.

6. Pekanfood – I’ve only been there once and was too busy talking to take photos. Bu my friend’s ginormous fish and chips impressed me – so did the instagrammable rustic-chic interior.

7. Roosendaal Pie & Mash – Roosendaal’s hearty pies deserve a standing ovation. Cosy vibes and yumcha-perfect fare make it ideal for family meals and gatherings with girlfriends.

8. Sourdough Ipoh – Run by a young couple, this unpretentious cafe bakes sourdough, focaccia, brioche, cookies and more tempting treats than you can handle! Their light meals are no slouch either – my vote goes to the grilled kimchi cheese sandwhich on gochujang garlic sourdough bread.

9. Irodori – Prepare to be wowed by these Japanese artisanal fruit tarts! Pastry chef Vincent Koh’s exquisite creations are edible masterpieces – fresh local fruits like dragonfruit and pomelo nestled in light pastry, a virtuous dessert that’s a feast for the eyes and palate.

10. Coffee CAMP 612 – Full disclosure: a family member owns this cafe and I would like to support the budding young entrepreneur managing this. Get caffeinated amidst a creative camping-style haven, adorned with plants from their own nursery. Sip, shop for greenery, and soak in the view – pure chill vibes.

I’ve included all the FB page links to these Ipoh cafes, so please check them out for the contact details, opening hours etc. For now, happy feasting with your eyes! 🙂
