Mum’s Onion Omelette

Can you see me drooling as I film my mum – this onion omelette is one of those dishes that look too simple to impress. Just three eggs, two red onions, soy sauce, salt, and oil. But somehow, in her hands, it becomes magic. In Malay, we call that ‘air tangan’, the special touch that…

Smoked Duck Carbonara

When I first heard of smoked duck carbonara, I was very, very skeptical. Smoked duck as a replacement for bacon? No way, José! And I’m not even Italian! Fyi, bacon is not even the cured meat of choice for proper carbonara, ya? Italians traditionally make this pasta by tossing hot noodles (usually spaghetti) in a…

Parmesan-Crusted French Toast

This ADULT version of the traditional French toast uses a not-too-secret pantry ingredient …. parmesan! We all know how to do normal French toast. You take a slice of white bread, dip it in beaten egg, fry in hot fat, and voila. This one takes the same concept. Except I add a layer of grated…

Afghani Omelette

When it comes to egg breakfast recipes, the Middle East is truly a gift that keeps on giving. The region has blessed us with wonderful egg-centric creations like shakshuka, menemen and cirbil. And I’ve just recently discovered another stunning dish called Afghani omelette. No, despite its name, this doesn’t look like the omelette that we…

Make Perfect Poached Eggs

Is there a more beautiful sight than perfectly poached eggs? Until now, I get a little thrill whenever I make poached eggs successfully. Not only is poaching one of the healthiest methods to cook eggs, they are darn delicious and look so beautiful! They’re also tricky to make. Until a few weeks ago, getting them…

Nyonya Otak-otak

I’ve known Danny Boh, the contributor of this otak-otak recipe, for a long time. Nearly 20 years in fact. We go way back to the days when I joined Dell Penang as a fresh graduate and Danny was a sales manager in another department. Sure we said hello once in a while. But life…

Breakfast pizza toast

It’s been a surreal few weeks. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would experience a lockdown restricted movement order in my lifetime. What this means for many of us is a lot more cooking than usual. While I love cooking, breakfast is a bit of a challenge for me. Other than…

Who’s Ipohbunny, lah?

Welcome!

I’m Alexandra Wong, aka Ipohbunny. Yes, I was born in Ipoh, a city in the state of Perak, Malaysia. Oh and like many Ipohites, I’m a hardcore foodie!

As a food and travel journalist and author, and daughter of two amazing home cooks (my mum makes better food than most restaurants!) I am passionate about recreating restaurant-style dishes at home.

From Indian to Japanese, Laotian to Italian, I’m game to try any cuisine from any country – as long as there’s a stove involved (yes, I even bake bread on it) and my well-loved airfryer is within reach!

Connect with me if you love ideas for easy gourmet meals and real-life kitchen stories. I’m active on Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin.
